Interactive Clinical Q&A Sessions

Delivered by an InsideOut clinical expert, these weekly sessions cover 4 key topics:

  1. Where to start? Screening and treatment pathways for eating disorders
  2. Suitability: How to know who is right for InsideOut's eTherapies
  3. Managing motivation, ambivalence and treatment engagement during eating disorder care
  4. Complexities: Whose role is what, weighing, and language around eating disorders in clinical interactions

For clinical staff who are providing eating disorder treatment, we recommend attending all four sessions. For staff that are recommending pure self-help eTherapies to clients or referring to other treatment options, we recommend attending topics 1 and 2.

You can find the upcoming Q&A session dates and times by clicking the button below. Please share the link with your clinical team so they can choose when to attend.

Accredited Online Learning Courses

InsideOut have developed 4 online courses that cover everything your staff need to know about eating disorders. These include:

  • Management of Eating Disorders in the Community
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders: A Practice Based Introduction
  • The Essentials: Training Clinicians in Eating Disorders
  • Community Training for Dietitians: The Essentials

Courses range from 2-hour introduction to eating disorders and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) to 18-hour comprehensive training for clinicians and dietitians on the management of eating disorders in the community. For clinical staff who are screening and referring people with eating disorders, we recommend completing Management of Eating Disorders in the Community. For clinical staff who wish to provide treatment for eating disorders, we recommend completing Management of Eating Disorders in the Community, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders: A Practice Based Introduction, and The Essentials.

For your staff to access the eLearning courses for free, they will need to enter your unique centre code. Please email inside-out.clinical@sydney.edu.au to get your centre code to share with your staff. These codes can be used by any staff member at your centre.

Immediate Treatment and Referral Options for your Clients

We often hear from frontline staff that it can be challenging to know where to refer a person with emerging, mild or moderate eating disorder symptoms. We also know that there can be long wait times for people wanting to seek support for eating disorders.

To address this, InsideOut has launched the eClinic, which gives any Australian struggling with disordered eating access to InsideOut's free eTherapies.

Your clinical staff can now create a Health Professionals account on the eClinic.

Medicare Mental Health, IAR and PHN clinical staff have access to additional options on the eClinic, including referring a client to InsideOut for support. When your staff are creating their Health Professionals eClinic account, remind them to select 'Medicare Mental Health', 'Initial Assessment and Referral' or 'Primary Health Network' as their workplace, to unlock these additional options. All health professionals must be registered with their relevant accrediting body to create a Health Professionals account on the eClinic. However, non-clinical staff can recommend an eTherapy to a client using the eClinic.

InsideOut's evidence-based eTherapies have been developed for people with binge eating disorder and/or bulimia; mixed eating disorder symptoms (including restrictive eating); and carers of people with an eating disorder. The eTherapies can be used by your staff as a waitlist intervention before a client starts face-to-face sessions or employed as an adjunct to ongoing treatment for co-occurring issues.

Training for Clinicians

For your clinical staff who are interested in developing their skills in supporting a person with an eating disorder, InsideOut offers an online training program so clinicians can learn to guide a client through InsideOut's Binge Eating eTherapy (BEeT). This training takes approximately 4 hours.

InsideOut's research studies have found better retention and engagement with treatment when people are supported through Brief BEeT, as clinicians can use their therapeutic relationship and existing clinical skills to support the client to engage in the intervention. Guiding will also help clinicians to become more at ease with conversations, weighing, monitoring and supporting people living with an eating disorder.

Comprehensive Eating Disorder Training Program

Currently, there is an opportunity for 1-2 Medicare Mental Health centres to nominate to become a 'Champion Centre'. Over 8-12 weeks, your staff will receive comprehensive training in eating disorder screening, assessment and management, including access to all clinical drop in sessions, the four eLearning courses, guided Brief BEeT training, education on the IOI screener, and access to case-based learning sessions and the opportunity to ‘shadow’ with InsideOut clinical experts. InsideOut would work closely with the PHN local intake team to recommend people are referred to your centre for eating disorder support.

If you are interested in becoming a Champion Centre, please email inside-out.clinical@sydney.edu.au.
