SkillED is an online CBT self-help program with 11 self-paced modules that evaluates innovative engagement strategies - including individual treatment choice and just-in-time adaptive interventions - to reduce dropout rates and improve adherence and outcomes for individuals aged 12+ experiencing eating disorder symptoms.
Aims
This study aims to determine the feasibility, acceptability, and safety of SkillED in improving eating disorder symptomatology, general mental health, quality of life, and motivation. It will also evaluate whether the inclusion of engagement-based strategies such as treatment choice and Just-In-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs) reduces dropout rates and enhances adherence. With its online format, SkillED aims to reduce barriers to evidence-based treatment for people with clinical or subclinical symptoms of an eating disorder, who may or may not otherwise be receiving treatment.
Background
SkillED is an online cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) self-help program designed for individuals struggling with food, weight and shape issues. SkillED consists of 11 self-paced learning modules carefully created by a team of eating disorders researchers, lived experience representatives, clinicians, and digital experts. Each module provides evidence-based education and skill development with interactive activities. With dropout rates for e-therapies reaching up to 80 per cent, improving user engagement is a critical challenge. By empowering users with treatment choice and integrating real-time support strategies, this study is expected to enhance engagement, reduce dropout, and improve patient outcomes.
