The Influence of Food Diary Social Media Content on Body Image Perception and Disordered Eating Behaviours Among Young Adults

CHIEF INVESTIGATOR

Louisa Lei

CLOSING DATE

31 Mar 26

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh are exploring the relationship between social media food diary content (e.g., “What I Eat in a Day” vlogs) and the body image and eating behaviours of young adults aged 18-29.

Recruiting Study Details

Participants must be 18–29 years old, have an active account on at least one social media platform (e.g., TikTok), and be fluent in English.

What is Involved

This research examines the relationship between social media food diary content (e.g., “What I Eat in a Day” vlogs) and the body image and eating behaviours of young adults aged 18-29. It aims to understand how this genre of media may influence self-perception and habits within this demographic. Insights from the study could help inform future resources and support systems. Participation involves completing a confidential, 20-minute online survey. Participants will also have the option to take part in a follow-up focus group to share more detailed perspectives. All participation is anonymous and secure: the survey collects no personal identifiers, and any follow-up engagement is managed separately with strict privacy protocols.
