InsideOut Institute is Australia's national leader in eating disorder research. Our work spans clinical trials, digital innovation, and translation into real-world practice. Through global research partnerships, we are advancing knowledge to improve prevention, early intervention, and treatment for eating disorders, with the ultimate goal of finding a cure.
A sequential multiple assignment randomised trial (SMART) of personalised treatment for Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder. The treatment trial is offering up to six-months free, personalised treatment for people living with Bulimia Nervosa or Binge Eating Disorder, delivered by an experienced clinical team, and tailored to their needs, with step up or down pathways embedded in the trial design, depending on participant progress.
Individuals must be aged between 16–60 years old, with a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis of bulimia nervosa or binge eating disorder. Treatment sessions are mostly online, however participants will need to attend at least one in-person visit at a research site (University of Sydney, NSW; Monash University, VIC; or La Trobe University Albury-Wodonga Campus, VIC)
Participants will receive up to six-months free treatment with an experienced clinical team; including four weeks of first-line evidence-based treatment via a guided digital cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) program. Participants will then receive tailored therapy, based on response and progress; a treatment package of either extended CBT, personalised psychotherapy, or transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Participants of the TailorED Trial will also be requested to complete activities involved in the The Holistic Understanding Study.
