The GP Hub is an innovative, evidence-based digital suite of tools supporting GPs in the assesment and management of people living with eating disorders in Australia. Designed with GPs, people with lived experience of eating disorders, clinicians, practice managers and practice nurses, the GP Hub serves as a one-stop resource to streamline patient care and support GPs.
The InsideOut GP Hub is funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care and supports GPs at point of care with digital tools and information including screeners, clinical decision support, evidence-based information, guidelines, pathway and referral navigation.
GPs are the first place of contact for most Australians, providing wholistic and ongoing care to patients and families. They are an essential part of the treatment team for those patients living with an eating disorder providing screening, assessment, medical monitoring, emergency medicine, complex and chronic illness management and deal with multiple co-morbidities however eating disorders are managed in less than 1% of primary care encounters by GPs.
Providing support at point of care, the InsideOut GP HUB is co-designed to support GPs and their practice staff to overcome multiple barriers identified in the co-development. Integrating with GP workflows and systems whenever possible the HUB provides validated digital screening tools and assessments, clinical decision support, evidence-based treatment tables, medical monitoring guides, admission and pathway guidelines, medical expert and lived experience tips, MBS item navigation, custom care plan templates quality improvement activities and more.
Evidence shows that outcomes improve when eating disorders are detected early. Supporting GPs to overcome barriers and increase knowledge, skills, and confidence to identify people with disordered eating and disorders early, has the potential to significantly impact prevalence and recovery rates and provide a better health care journey for people living with eating disorders and their family members.
