The GP Hub and Tools research program evaluates a comprehensive, free, nationally available digital hub designed to support GPs in screening, assessing, diagnosing, and treating eating disorders through evidence-based tools, clinical decision support, and practice management resources. The program monitors engagement and outcomes to identify improvement opportunities, with the goal of increasing GPs' knowledge, confidence, and willingness to identify and manage eating disorders in primary care.
Aims
GP Hub and Tools research program aims to evaluate a comprehensive, evidence-based, one-stop digital hub for general practitioners (GPs) that will support them to identify, screen, assess, support, diagnose, and treat people with eating disorders. Specifically, this research program will provide data for routine monitoring and reporting of engagement with the GP Hub, the Clinical Decision Support Tool, the Practice Management Toolkit and the treatment team builder. Further, it will inform opportunities for ongoing development of the GP Hub and support quality improvement activities. Using GP Hub will increase knowledge of eating disorders as well as confidence and willingness to treat people living with eating disorders.
Background
IOI has developed the GP Hub and Tools with funding from the Australian Government and has rolled it out nationally. Available any time anywhere and free-of-cost, the GP Hub provides resources for use at point of care. The GP Hub includes built-in evidence-based screening and assessment tools, linked referral options, as well as a purpose-built Clinical Decision Support Tool (CDST). It guides GPs through the diagnostic criteria and an evidence-based treatment table, to support clinical decision making and build the confidence of GPs. Additionally, the GP Hub incorporates a Practice Management Toolkit featuring in-depth supports for practice staff, including custom auto-fill templates for GP software, tutorials and tips on how to enhance processes and the use of software, as well as Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) information on Medicare compliance and quality improvement projects.
