Webinar on Oedema: General Overview in Eating Disorders

About this Webinar
Oedema is a medical term for swelling causes by fluid accumulation within the body's tissues (predominantly the interstitial and subcutaneous tissue compartments). Although it can occur in any part of the body it is most commonly seen in the lower limb extremities and is in this case referred to as peripheral oedema. There are many causes of oedema with some of the most important being heart failure, liver disease, kidney failure, and deep venous thrombosis. Peripheral oedema in patients with eating disorders can be a harbinger of heart, kidney, or liver disease due to the effects of long-term malnutrition. Peripheral oedema can also occur as part of refeeding syndrome. In this webinar, Dr. Yong will provide a general overview of oedema as well as provide specific discussion on the significance, approach to, and management of oedema in patients with eating disorders.

Presented By: Dr Kenneth Yong
Dr Yong is a transplant nephrologist and director of Kidney Supportive Care Service at Prince of Wales Hospital. He has interests in clinical based research specifically in the fields of inflammation and cardiovascular disease in advanced chronic kidney disease, dialysis and transplant patients.
