I provide individual therapy to people suffering from eating disorders and their carers. I use an integrated approach to help manage the various behaviours associated with eating disorders. My preference is to work collaboratively with other treating clinicians such as GPs, dieticians and psychiatrists and I am happy to help find experienced clinicians as required. Unlike most eating disorder clinicians, my main goal is not to “get rid of” the eating disorder, but to come to understand it. Internal Family Systems therapy helps facilitate this process, transforming the eating disorder into a healthy part of a person’s internal system.
I have experience as an eating disorder individual and family therapist in both private practice and in a specialist inpatient eating disorder unit which gave me an important insight into just how distressing eating disorders can be, not only for those suffering directly but also for the those who are providing care. This experience was invaluable as I saw first-hand how painful it is to struggle with food constantly.
