Queensland Public Services

This section lists local public community and mental health services which provide assessment and evidence-based treatment to people with eating disorders. They may include Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS), Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS) or other public health services. For more details about the nearest and most appropriate service, use the contact information provided below.

Please note: There are lots of private providers in local communities who also provide treatment for people with eating disorders often rebated under Medicare. You can search for these community services under our Private Providers section.

Community Treatment

Child and adolescent: Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS)

To access your local Child and Youth Mental Health Service CYMHS provide a number of teams across the Greater Brisbane and Pine Rivers regions. They serve their local communities and outreach across Queensland through specialist programs. While referral usually occurs to your local CYMHS service, there is a specialist Eating Disorders Program (CYMHS EDP) available on (07) 3397 9077

Adult

Adult: To access information local community-based services for adults within your area, call 1300 MH CALL (1300 642255). This is a confidential mental health telephone triage service that provides the first point of contact to public mental health services to Queenslanders. 1300 MH CALL is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will link to the caller’s nearest Queensland Public Mental Health service.

Inpatient Treatment

Emergency Department

If there is concern about a person’s medical and/or psychiatric safety, present to your nearest EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT. People who need medical stabilisation should be admitted to acute hospital medical inpatient treatment. Admission for inpatient treatment may be arranged if appropriate via the emergency department.
