InsideOut acknowledges the tradition of custodianship and law of the Country on which the University of Sydney and Charles Perkins Centre campus stands. We pay our respects to those who have cared and continue to care for Country. We are committed to diversifying research and eliminating inequities and discrimination in healthcare. We welcome all people regardless of age, gender, race, size, sexuality, language, socioeconomic status, location or ability.

We know eating disorders occur in 4% of the population. For those working in general practice, that means approximately one in every 25 patients may be experiencing an eating disorder.
We also know around one-third of Australian adolescents engage in disordered eating behaviours within any given year. The question is: could you identify these behaviours early enough in the consultation room?
InsideOut experts have collaborated with Healthed on a five-part podcast series on eating disorders, providing practical, evidence-based insights to help health professionals recognise, asses, and manage eating disorders with confidence.
Hosted by GPs, and designed to fit neatly into a 40-50 minute commute, each episode offers CPD-accredited learning while exploring real-world challenges in eating disorder care.
Looking for guidance on when to screen for an eating disorder? How to differentiate between increased food consciousness and clinically significant symptoms? How to raise concerns with young people, patients in higher-weight bodies, or someone who may not fit traditional presentations?
The podcast series tackles these questions and more, offering practical case examples and useful sentence starters to help navigate conversations with compassion.
Learn about the IOI-S, a six-question screener that assesses eating disorder risk and symptomatology. Developed using accessible, patient-friendly language, the IOI-S is particularly effective at detecting binge eating behaviours compared to other widely used counterparts.
Need support once you’ve identified a patient at risk? The podcast introduces InsideOut’s GP Hub for eating disorders — a free digital suite of tools designed to support GPs at point of care. The GP Hub features a Diagnosis Support Tool, treatment planning tables, and service database to help build a multidisciplinary team designed to fit your patient’s needs.
Across the five episodes, leading experts explore eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns in a range of populations, including adolescents, people in higher-weight bodies, athletes, men, LGBTQIA+ communities, and women across the lifespan. Our experts explore the unique and intersecting factors that can influence presentations and recovery within these groups and offer practical guidance clinicians can immediately translate into practice.
