The Statewide Eating Disorder Service (SEDS) is a specialised mental health service providing assessment, care, and information for people affected by an eating disorder, as well as their family, friends, and carers. SEDS provides in-person counselling from a range of healthcare professionals, including psychologists, dietitians, and psychiatrists, according to individual circumstances. SEDS also runs an intensive treatment day program 4 days a week for a minimum of 8 weeks. SEDS also provides in-patient facilities in the Flinders Medical Centre. Both programs require patients to have met specific criteria, such as GP referral, to access the programs. Out-patient treatments staffed by volunteers and dietitians are also available. All treatments are free, as they are covered by Medicare. SEDS does not provide telephone counselling or outreach programs.
