Studies into the disordered eating behaviour of chew and spit (CHSP) are limited and some groups may be more at-risk thank others. One such group is bariatric (weight loss) surgery candidates. To date, no study has examined the eating disorder behaviour of CHSP in this cohort. In this study we examine three cases from Norway having undergone bariatric surgery and reported on eating disorder symptoms (including CHSP), anxiety and depression, and adherence to the Norwegian nutritional guidelines were examined. It was found that two patients engaged in CHSP before surgery, and one post-surgery. This study provides us with a starting point to examine CHSP as an eating disorder symptom in bariatric patients. It also highlights the need to further explore chew and spit before and after weight-loss surgery.
