Adjusting Treatment Goals in the Clinical Care of Individuals with Enduring Eating Disorders

Associate Professor Josie Gellar, in this workshop, focuses on a new therapeutic approach that incorporates different communicative therapeutic styles.

Specifically, four clinical styles are examined: Superman approach (directively take charge and try to fix the problem), cheerleader approach (encourage change and express positivity and optimistic hope), mr nice guy approach (nurturing treatment style, supportive and empathetic, looking after emotional wellbeing in that moment), protol approach (go by the book, and consistently follow treatment protol). The strengths and weaknesses of these four styles are addressed.

Additionally, mistakes around declaring non-negotiables are discussed.
