The purpose of this research project is to better understand the occupational therapy role with people with eating disorders. Our research addresses the question: How do registered occupational therapists in Australia describe their role when working with adolescents and adults experiencing disordered eating/eating disorders within inpatient and/or outpatient settings? Participation includes an online or in-person interview scheduled at a mutually convenient time.
Inclusion Criteria:
Registered occupational therapists in Australia (AHPRA, working with (or have previously worked with) adolescents and adults, experiencing eating disorders/disordered eating (AN, BN, BED, OSFED, and restrictive eating/compensatory behaviour presentations), working (now or in the past) within inpatient and/or outpatient/community settings, utilising psychosocial/occupational therapy/mental health treatment approaches (not medical interventions, adequate use of the English language to engage in the interview, able to access technology (Zoom, Teams) required to engage in the interview process.
Exclusion Critera:
Not occupational therapists, working with people experiencing eating disorders/disordered eating not related to deliberate restriction and body image concerns (e.g., Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, Pica, Rumination Disorder, paediatric feeding disorders), therapists working exclusively with children (not adolescents or adults), utilising predominantly medical intervention.
