InsideOut’s Director, Professor Sarah Maguire joined the University of Sydney’s Vice Chancellor and President, Mark Scott for Season 2 of The Solutionists Podcast where she explained what everyone needs to know about the eating disorders which affect more than one million Australians.
Professor Maguire spoke of the important role of early intervention for recovery and shed light on the “vicious cycle” that is holding back potentially lifesaving research and treatments.
“Eating disorders are curable. If you receive the right treatment at the right time, they’re totally curable for large numbers of people,” she said.
She also addressed the mythology society attaches to diet culture.
"I really hope that in the next couple of decades, as a society and a culture, we start to confront that mythology, the idea that dieting is somehow always virtuous."
