InsideOut unites with national eating disorder organisations to support LGBTQIA+ community at Fair Day 2025

25 Feb, 2025

InsideOut joined national eating disorder organisations to support the LGBTQIA+ community as part of the EveryBODY Welcome stall at Mardi Gras Fair Day - a celebration of pride and diversity that marks the beginning of Sydney’s Mardi Gras festival - in Victoria Park on Sunday 16 February.

It was the second year EveryBODY Welcome participated in Fair Day after successfully launching at Fair Day World Pride 2023.

The EveryBODY Welcome team was pleased to reconnect with familiar faces and establish new connections, to provide opportunity for discussion, share resources, and provide contact information for anyone who may need help or support.

InsideOut’s Jane Miskovic-Wheatley explained, “Evidence suggests that people who identify as sexually or gender diverse have an increased risk of disordered eating, eating disorders and body image concerns and also face unique barriers to seeking understanding, support and care.”

“The aim of EveryBODY Welcome is to raise awareness about this while reducing stigma and helping members of the community to access the care and support they need," She said.

EveryBODY Welcome is a collaboration of some of the country's leading eating disorder organisations who have united to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote access to effective treatment for any LGBTQIA+ person with a lived or living experience of an eating disorder.

EveryBODY Welcome envisages a world where every body, no matter what size, shape, colour, gender, sexuality, ability, profession or religion, is welcomed and celebrated! They are an organisation of community members, people with lived experience of body image concerns or eating disorders, allies and inclusive health care professionals.

We would like to thank all of our partner organisations who took part in the event: Australia and New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders(ANZAED); Australian Eating Disorder Research and Translation Centre (AEDRTC)ButterflyEating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA)Eating Disorders Neurodiversity Australia (EDNA); Eating Disorders Queensland (EDQ); Eating Disorders Victoria (EDV)National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC).
