Parents, experts and advocates frustrated with level of services for people with eating disorders

InsideOut Director Dr Sarah Maguire speaks to The Examiner about the need for a "rethink" of eating disorder services in Tasmania.

She says that Tasmania had fallen behind most other states in Australia and the lack of services was a major concern.

"Most of the time we are talking about urgent gaps in services that need to be funded ... it has actually gone beyond that," Dr Maguire says.

"There are so many gaps in the service spectrum for both children, adolescents and adults with eating disorders in Tasmania that it is not really about funding a single service.

"What the Minister for Mental Health and the Minister for Health and upcoming budgets really need to grapple with is where is the policy in Tasmania around treatment of eating disorders in the health system."
