About our service:

In 2024 Hunter New England Local Health District will be opening a residential eating disorders centre (REDC) - the first of its kind- for NSW. Once construction is complete, this role will be based in Charlestown, Lake Macquarie. Until then, our temporary location is at the Mater Mental Health Centre in Waratah. Charlestown is 15 km from Newcastle CBD, offering excellent connectivity to the community and transport while being nestled in a natural bushland setting within a residential area.

A skilled multidisciplinary team will provide an intensive program of individual and group interventions, using a rehabilitation framework. Interventions will focus on specialist treatment for eating disorders together with addressing psychosocial disruption and overall quality of life.

REDC will be required to function in conjunction with existing specialised tertiary services, with a broad range of stakeholders, both in public and private sectors within Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and across NSW.

About your new job:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker, who has extensive experience working with people with an eating disorder and/or complex mental health disorders and has a passion for being an integral member of a dynamic multidisciplinary team in the development of a new and innovative service model.

The Level 5 Social Worker will be a member of the senior clinical care coordination team to ensure a Social Work perspective is embedded into all aspects of service development and delivery.

This will include but not limited to:

  • Comprehensive and collaborative assessment and care planning, tailored specialist social work interventions and preparation for discharge
  • Optimising opportunities for psychosocial engagement within REDC and also through establishing networks and linkages with community
  • Providing support and supervision of less experienced REDC staff members and consultation/engagement with broader HNE MH Social Work network.
